Ambassador Detroit Windsor |
In 1979, the Central Cartage Company of Detroit (now Central Transport International) purchased the Ambassador Bridge, which is owned and operated by the Detroit International Bridge Company (DIBC). Central Cartage was owned by a native Detroit family, headed by Manuel J. "Matty" Moroun, a successful transportation businessman who recognized the great heritage and potential of the Ambassador Bridge.
Since then, the positive results of the current leadership of Moroun and DIBC President Dan Stamper and the Bridge's board of directors are clear. Improved facilities and careful planning have made the Ambassador Bridge the number one international border crossing in North America. Nearly 14 million vehicles crossed the span in 2003. In 2004, the Ambassador Bridge celebrated its 75th Anniversary.
